doha: The Qatargas 3&4 Project reached a significant milestone during the first week of October when the last of three topsides and pipeline risers were installed onto the QW8 jacket.

J Ray McDermott’s derrick barge ‘DB101 ‘safely installed the 38” pipeline riser and lifted the 2,000 tonne topside into position during the night of October 2nd and subsequently lifted and positioned the helideck and flareboom structures into position.

Peter Flanagan, Head of Platform Construction said “Full credit goes to McDermott for engineering and executing safely the installation of the three platforms in the North Field.” Offshore Project Manager Bill Boyington said the installation of the third of three offshore platforms for QG3&4 was a huge milestone for QG3&4 and for the Qatargas organization.

“To reach the milestone the whole team (Project, Expantion Start Up, and Operations) had to work hand in hand to ensure a quality product is delivered in a safe manner,” he said. The pipelines and topsides will now be hooked up and fully co mmissioned in preparation for the introduction of gas.
