DOHA: Qatar will soon acquire a state-of-the art mobile media centre manufactured by the Dubai Civil Defence (DCD), according to a DCD official currently in Doha for the Second Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference being held at the Doha Exhibition Centre.

The mobile media displayed at the exhibition stands out among the products showcased by over 80 exhibitors participating in the three-day expo which opened yesterday.

“This is not the first time that we have participated in this exhibition. We were here during the successful inaugural civil defence expo two years ago,” Major Sulaiman Abdul Karim Yacoub, Manager, Technical Affairs Department at DCD told The Peninsula on the sidelines of the event.

Major Yacoub said they have been invited by Qatar to take part in the exhibition for the second time to showcase their latest vehicle which is the mobile media centre.

“We have been manufacturing a lot of rescue vehicles for Qatar as part of our agreement, and Qatar will soon acquire this vehicle,” he said. A first in the Middle East, the mobile media centre features moving a camera, night vision, presentation screens, fax machine and printers among others.

“This vehicle is completely manufactured in our workshops in Dubai,” Major Yacoub said adding, it is used especially in major accidents to disseminate information as fast and accurately as possible.

Like Qatar, Dubai has been at the forefront of civil defence services not only in fire and rescue operations but also in preventive safety and community awareness projects.

Much of its achievements can be attributed to successful implementation of its many programmes, among them are focused on gearing up its technological capacity through innovation and manufacture of state-of-the-art devices and vehicles.

Recently, Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director of DCD revealed that fires in Dubai have declined by 44 percent in the first four months of 2009, which can be attributed to a number of their projects.

Last year, Dar Al Sharq, organiser of the Second Civil Defence Expo and Conference, has partnered with DCD to organise the ‘Dubai Second Strategic Forum for Safety in High-rise Building’.
