Doha: The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), received two Honda utility motor bikes as donation from Health Care Inc, a part of Al Kharj Group, Qatar. The EMS department would utilise the bikes for reaching out to emergency medical cases in the desert.
The Honda utility bikes are specially made for desert conditions and will be stationed at Sealine EMS Clinic, to cater for medical emergencies during the winter camping season.
Speaking on the importance of adding motor bikes to EMS,
Mohamad Al Noimi, Executive Director, Marketing and Public Relations at HMC said: “As part of ‘HMC Safe Campaign’ for Winter 2009-10, the bikes would help in faster delivery of EMS to any accident spot in the desert. We are going to train our staff in handling the bikes in the sands, so that a quick response team is always on hand to provide first aid to victims and assess the severity of the accident, before an ambulance can reach them”.
Powered with a 680cc engine, the four wheel drive, Honda bikes, come with a safety kit for the driver and can also carry first aid and other medical equipment.
The Executive Director of EMS, Robert Owen, while receiving the bikes, stated the importance of adding a Motor Bike section to the already existing road and air ambulatory services. “The motor bikes would help the EMS in reaching out to the patients in the shortest possible time and save lives in critical cases,” Owen said.
