Kahramaa to phase out overhead power lines

DOHA: The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is all set to phase out the overhead power lines in the country. As part of its mission, Kahramaa has already replaced overhead power lines with the underground cables at several residential areas. The works of many projects are in progress, Kahramaa officials said here yesterday.

In Gharaffa area, the Kahramaa has replaced the 132 Kilo Watt power lines with underground cable. The 132 kilo watt over head lines that linking Umm Al Kahab and Alsyliah has also been changed in to underground cables. Alsyliah-al Wajba (3 km), Umm Salal-Abuttila (14km) are among other places where thepower lines have been changed in to underground lines.

The Kahramaa officials said many similar projects are in progress. The ongoing projects include the high-tension power lines linking Wakra-Messaeed South Doha-Abu Hamour, South Doha- Benihaji, Ras Abu Fontas-Old Airport Area, Abuttila-Al Khor and Samiriya-Wajba.
