Officials with the consignment for Gaza schools.

DOHA: A consignment of books and stationery will arrive in the Gaza Strip over the coming days with support from Qatar Charity. The organisation has sent QR10m worth school stationery to the Palestinian people in Gaza. The 250 tonnes of materials, ranging from note books to pencil and pen, will be the first educational support items the children have received over the last two years.

A convoy of 18 truck loads of stationery materials which started off from Jordan on Sunday will reach Gaza in two days. This educational aid to the children is in conjunction with the Jordan Hashemite Charity.

The Qatari assistance was part of an international aid effort for the Gaza strip, the biggest since the Israeli aggression in December 2008. Mane Abdel Hadi Al Hajiri, Ambassador from Qatar to Jordan, Abdullah bin Hussien Al Nimah, Vice-Chairman of Qatar Charity, Ahmed Muhammed al Ayman, Secretary of Jordanian charity, and Thafur Al Nubani, Dirrector General of humanitarian support with the Palestinian Government, accompanied by numerous officials from the Qatari and Jordanian organizations, inspected the trucks in Jordan before they made way to Gaza.

Qatar Charity began its project six months prior by ensuring that the necessary permits for the consignment were ready and that Palestinians in Gaza would receive access to the books and stationary upon its arrival.

The organisation also stressed that its initiatives aimed at the support of the Palestinian people in the fields of education and health, will be continued.
