Cairo: H E the Minister of Justice, Hassen bin Abdullah Al Ghanem, stressed that Qatar has been keen on enhancing Arab judicial cooperation and supporting efforts that aims to realise the interest of the region.
Emanating from such reasons, Qatar has joined international conventions and expressed its opinions that are in support of Arab countries and meet their objectives, H E the Minister of Justice added.
He noted that the meetings of the executive bureau of Arab Justice Ministers that kicked off yesterday at the headquarters of the Arab League have also praised Qatar’s efforts in the fields of fighting against corruption and hailed that results of the 3rd session of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption held recently in Doha and brought participants from more than 140 countries.
He added that the conference ended up with a set of recommendations, hoping to see activation for them in the near future to help efforts of combating all forms of corruption at both regional and international levels.
Al Ghanem highlighted in a press statement today the importance of the meetings of the Executive Bureau which are in preparation for the twenty-fifth session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice meeting, due to be held today at the Arab League premises.
He added that the issues be discussed in the Ministers meeting are relating to the coordination of Arab attitudes towards active participation in the Twelfth United Nations Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice to be held in Brazil in 2010 as well as the Review Conference of the Rome Convention for the International Criminal Court to be held in Uganda in 2010. This conference, he said, is extremely important and there are several committees will represent Arab states at this Conference.
H E the Minister added that the ministerial meeting will also discuss various issues including the fight against terrorism by highlighting the Arab convention on the fight against terrorism and its implementation mechanism and the draft Arab convention on anti-money laundering and terrorist financing as well as study ways of strengthening Arab cooperation and international cooperation in combating terrorism.
He explained that these conventions were reviewed during the meeting of the Executive Bureau and that several recommendations in this context have been taken including the need to ratify the Arab convention to combat terrorism.
