A scene from the tug of war between students and teachers.

Doha: Children’s Day was celebrated at the Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS) to commemorate the birthday of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Friendly throw ball and basketball matches played between students and teachers left the pupils exhilarated. The girls defeated the teachers in the tug of war and the boys won the tug of war with the male staff members.

Master Arjun Sreekumar of Grade 5 gave a short speech about the significance of Children’s Day. Sweets were distributed to mark the occasion. Teachers sang songs to show their love and appreciation toward students.

To celebrate Children’s Day, the Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Bulbuls of DMIS were taken to the Doha Zoo, November 14.

“Doha Modern Indian School strongly believes that field trips support classroom teaching of any concept by engaging students in hands-on inquiry through activities not easily reproduced in the classroom.” Academic Coordinator of Doha Modern Indian School, Sarada Narayanaswamy said.

“Our trip to the zoo was exciting. We got to see and learn about many animals,” Vishali, Maheen and Anushka, students of Grade 2 said, when asked to share their experience. As a follow-up activity, each child was required to write a report on the field trip.
