People urged to slaughter animals at abattoirs

DOHA: Doha Municipality has warned people against slaughtering sacrificial animals in unauthorised private places during Eid Al Adha.

A senior official from the health affairs department of the city’s civic body said people must desist from such practices as they could end up eating meat of ailing animals. “Bring all the animals for slaughter to abattoirs since veterinary doctors are on duty to check each animal which is sacrificed,” said Mohamed Lahdan Al Kaabi.

Al Kaabi, who is deputy director of Doha Municipality, said a large number of veterinary doctors will be put on duty at the various abattoirs to check the health of sacrificial animals.

Such doctors will also be deputed to Qatar Charity and Sheikh Eid Charity to supervise slaughter. At the abattoirs, he said, animals will be slaughtered after Eid prayers until 9pm to make sure that people in the queue don’t have to wait longer than required.

He said the preparations were being made and public cleaning and fumigating departments have been asked to be ready to do their jobs.
