DOHA: The Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs (QSRSN) issued 33 medical and assistive devices to a number of its members with physical, optical, hearing and multi disabilities recently. Funds for the devices were raised through QSRSN coupon selling campaign during the Holy month of Ramadan.
The devices cost over QR60,000, according to Rabieh bin Mohamed, Vice Chairman, QSRSN. The devices include 16 wheel chairs in various sizes of which four were given to those with severe movement disabilities.
Also four eye lenses, seven hearing devices and six medical devices including artificial limbs, supportive devices and walkers were given away. The society had effectively reached out to the public with its cause during Ramadan.
Volunteers explained in detail about the project, goals and how to donate money for it at specially put up booths in public places.
Ameer Al Mulla, Executive Director and Chief of devices issuing committee also confirmed that the society is keen to provide medical devices and distribute these to all registered members regardless of sex, nationality or religion.
“Our policy is based on the principle of equality and serving people with special needs in Qatar,” Mulla said.
