DOHA: A famous artist from California recently showcased her works at the Ritz-Carlton Doha Hotel, featuring works such as ‘Reflections of Doha’, ‘Cranes of Light’, ‘Sandstorm’, and ‘Finding the Way.’
Lisa Mounteer Watson is Californian, but has lived abroad for the last 20 years. She majored in Fine Arts at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1980. After living in the UK and Belgium for twelve years, she moved to the Middle East in 2002 and has lived in Oman and Abu Dhabi before arriving to Qatar in 2008.
In her art, Lisa seeks to reflect the unseen resonance of the environment in which she is painting. Each place has its own rhythm; buildings emit their individual energies; and people project their unique emotions and spirituality. Her endeavor is to blend these elements together, suffused with the historical and cultural legacy on which they exist.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring such an esteemed art exhibition to our guests, and are truly grateful to Lisa for her inspiring work that captures the true essence of the Doha landscape… We are honored to feature her exhibition and encourage all guests to enjoy the artworks as much as we do,” said Philippe Rubod, hotel manager.
“Most of these paintings were produced in Doha, where I feel a tenacious vibrant energy, existing now and for generations before” says Lisa. “There is a pioneering spirit here and hope for future prosperity. This seems to be a place where vortex lines meet and greet, even going so far as the link to the cranes, a constant reminder of growth and progress, especially poignant against the backdrop of azure seas, ancient ochre walls, and elegant, hospitable Qatari’s in their flowing garments,” added Watson
Lisa has sold paintings in California, Texas, Belgium, UK, Oman and Abu Dhabi. She has also studied at the College of Creative Studies, Santa Barbara, and Laguna Beach School of Art. The hotel also recently celebrated its 8th anniversary.
