DOHA • The British Embassy, in partnership with the British Council and HSBC, have selected this year's three Chevening Scholars who will be undertaking Masters or postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
Hend Al Mughani will study MSc in Textile Technology at University of Manchester, while Fuad Al Mudehki will start his MSc in Sports Development at Northumbria University this month. Ibrahim Al Sulaiti has been awarded the HSBC sponsored Chevening Scholarship and is taking an MBA at the University of Leicester.
The British Chevening Scholarship is the UK government's flagship scholarship and is aimed at promoting the UK's longer-term political, economic and commercial interests and to support diplomacy by building understanding and goodwill. Each year the Foreign Office awards over 1000 Chevening Scholarships to people from across the globe. The programme is funded by the United Kingdom's Foreign Office and administered by the British Council worldwide.
The British Ambassador in Doha Simon Collis said, "I am especially pleased that we continue the tradition of selecting high quality Chevening scholars from Qatar. I wish them well for their studies in the UK and hope they thoroughly enjoy their British experience. I look forward to hearing of their thoughts and experiences on their return next year."
Each year, three Qatari citizens are selected for Chevening Scholarships, of which one is funded by HSBC. The scholarships cover tuition fees, a monthly allowance and access to the Chevening Alumni network across the globe. The British Embassy will begin recruitment for Qatar's Chevening Scholars for the next academic year (2007/08) early next year.
