Qatar to take part in Twenty20 Cup in UAE

Officials of Qatar Cricket Association are seen with players who will be part of the team which will take part in the ACC Twenty20 Championship 2009 scheduled to be held in UAE from November 22 to 30. The championship will be contested by 12 countries from the Asian region.

Doha: Qatar Cricket Association (QCA) has been invited by Asian Cricket Council to participate in the ACC Twenty20 Championship 2009 scheduled to be held in UAE from November 22 to 30, which will be contested by 12 countries from the Asian region.

QCA which is sending the national squad left Doha on November 16, to proceed to Colombo, where they will be playing warm up matches with Sri Lankan teams and thereafter proceeding to UAE on November 20. The Players who are locally registered with Qatar Cricket Association were selected on the basis of performance in the QCA organised tournaments, said the management of QCA.

The President of QCA, M A Shahid gave a pep talk to the selected players urged them to maintain discipline on and off the field and to keep Qatar flag flying high and wished them success. The President also thanked Vodafone Qatar who has partly sponsored the trip. The participating teams are divided into 2 groups: Group A: Afghanistan, U.A.E., Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, China

Group B: Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Nepal, Malaysia, Bahrain

Following officials and players will be part of the team for the tournament. Officials: Manzoor Ahmed as Manager, Aruna De Silva as Coach, Amjad Baig as Physio Players:Umar Taj (captain) , Tamoor Sajjad (Vice-captain), Iqtedar Ahmed Khan, Irfan Hussain, Sardar Badshah, Ameen ullah khan, Ali Ishtiaq, Shaikh Mohammad Raheel, Faisal Noor, Sajjad Ahmed Qureshi, Rusharat Ali, Zaheer uddeen Ibrahim, Syed Abbas Hussain Habib Zada and Omran Hussain.
