Al Sadd players are a picture of absolute delight as they celebrate winning the 2006-07 Qatar National League title at the Qatar Sports Club on Saturday night.

doha • In what was a convincing run this season, defending champions Al Sadd on Saturday night secured their 12th league title with a 4-0 victory at Qatar Sports Club.

With 54 points, Al Sadd, who are taking part in this year’s AFC Champions League, have an unassailable 18-point lead over closest rivals Al Gharafa with five games to go.

The visitors, who begin their AFC Champions League campaign at last year’s runners-up Al Karama in Homs on Wednesday, opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Brazilian striker Felipe Jorge.

Some 14 minutes later, Al Sadd managed to find their second goal. In the 28th minute, Jorge’s compatriot Marcio Emerson doubled his side’s advantage with his 17th goal of the season. Ecuadorian striker Carlos Tenorio added the third goal after 59 minutes, before Magid Mohammed rounded things off with a last-minute strike.

Besides Al Sadd, Qatar’s Al Rayyan are also taking part in this year’s AFC Champions League, which will also feature two Australian clubs from this season onwards.
