Al Sadd on top of Qatar league

Doha • Al Sadd are still at the top spot at the end of the first leg of the double-tier Qatar National Football League. Al Sadd finished their first leg engagements with a tally to 22 points with the second-placed Al Gharafa seven points adrift of the leaders.

In their last round match, Al Sadd trounced Al Rayyan 3-0. At the end of half time, the winners led 1-0.

Al Sadd striker Khalfan Ibrahim Khalfan struck twice to fashion the comfortable win for Al Sadd at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

Khalfan scored his first goal in 34th minute.

Al Sadd maintained the pressure in the second half with Khalfan striking his second goal in the 55th minute, while Ecuadorian striker Carlos Tenorio completed the tally of three goals for the winners.

Al Arabi moved to the fifth spot in the point's standings as they came from behind to script a 2-1 win over Qatar Sports Club.

Qatar SC struck first, as early in the 16th minute through Omani striker Imad Ali Suliman Al Hawsani to go into the half time with a 1-0 lead.

The second half was well controlled and dominated by Al Arabi

The winners struck decisive blows in the 69th and 85th minute through Portuguese Joao Tomas and Aussie Tony Popovic to register their fourth victory

Meanwhile, Hadid's 64th minute goal for Al Shemal guided his team to a 1-0 win over Umm Salal.

In the Other ninth-round matches, Al Wakra pipped Al Khor, through an own goal.

Al Gharaffa notched a late match-winner against Al Ahli in a 5-4 high goal scoring encounter.

Younis Mahmoud managed a feast for the winners with four goals feat against his name, striking in the 29th, 58th, 73rd and 85th minute. Anas Mobarak accounted for one goal for the winners.

Ibrahima Ba and Younis Ali registered a brace each for Al Ahli.

Ibrahima goals came in the 23rd and 59th minute while Younis struck for Ahli in the 63rd and 80th minute.
