Doha: The QOC marked on Sunday the Fourth edition of the World Walking Day at Qatar Sports Club with the participation of more than 300 students from elementary schools, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar Red Crescent and Qatar Sports Club. At least 14 schools have participated in the event, including 5 schools for girls and 7schools for boys: Al Wakra and Alukir Independent Secondary School for Boys, Umm Salal Ali Primary School, Halima Al-Sa'adia School, Al Wafa Model Boys School, Al Muntazah Independent School , Al Khwarizmi Independent School, Al-Muthanna bin Haritha Model Independent School , Malik bin Anas Model Independent School, Abdallah Bin Rawaha Primary School, the Audio Education Complex, Rawdat Rashid Independent Primary&Prep School and Rawdat Rashid School. Waleed El Khanji, Head of Sport Evens Unit in QOC told Qatar News Agency (QNA) the event aims at instilling walking among students in order to adopt active lifestyle. Walking as a mass phenomenon occupies a dominant place in the world of active living. Taking into account the many benefits of walking to people of all ages, TAFISA has launched the World Walking Day in 1991.The World Walking Day merges the manifold efforts in the field of walking and stands for the common aim of TAFISA member organizations from all continents to present walking as a worldwide movement above all as a means against obesity and inactivity.
