Official news agencies in the GCC countries yesterday launched a unified mobile application called GCC News.
Khalid bin Salem Al Ghassani, Assistant Secretary General for Media and Cultural Affairs at the Secretariat General of the GCC, launched the app at an event organised by the Qatar News Agency (QNA) at Alsharq Village and Spa, in the presence of representatives of other news agencies of the GCC states.
"The application was created by QNA staff using the latest smart services. So it is 100 percent our project," said Ahmed Saad Al Buainain, General Director of QNA, in his opening speech. Internet users can now have easy and fast access to all news carried by the GCC news agencies, he added.
This project, which QNA has taken its technical and financial expertise to develop, is one of the achievements of the GCC media, said Al Ghassani.
Al Ghassani said that despite what is said about the failure of the GCC news agencies, they are still a reliable source for official news and have the potential to deal with the challenges of broadcasting and publishing.
Khalid Mohammed Al Mutawaa, Director of Technical Affairs at QNA, briefed the audience about the new app highlighting its main features that enable users to create folders related to specific topics such as news related to oil. It has an added advantage of watching GCC TV channels, video, Youtube that include materials related to GCC news and the region.
Users can go to app store and download the GCC News app, said Eman Al Sulaiti, head of Electronic Media Section. She explained that the application has the search and contact features while giving the users the chance to choose one of two languages, Arabic and English.
