NEW YORK: The Al Shaqab Racing owned Ectot exploded the opposition in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (Gr1) at Belmont Park on Saturday.
He literally left his rivals behind with Flintshire in second place. The latter had left André Fabre’s training stables in France for Chad Brown’s in the United States. Todd Pletcher’s French recruit Ectot, ridden by Jose Ortiz, won his ticket to the $4m Breeders’ Cup Turf to be run on 5 November at Santa Anita by winning his first Group 1 amazingly across the Atlantic.
“He has trained exceptionally well for us since he came in”, said trainer Todd Pletcher,
“He went off form in his last few starts in Europe, but came to us in great condition. His races leading up to this were sneaky good and he seemed to be improving. We made some minor adjustments with equipment and shoes and figured it out as we went along.”
