Ooredoo, one of the region’s leading ICT providers, has taken Qatar’s Smart Cities leadership to the global stage, by winning a prestigious award at the recent Broadband World Forum 2017 in Germany.
During the ceremony, which recognised companies that achieved excellence in the broadband marketplace, Ooredoo won “Best Smart City Collaboration” for its collaboration with the Lusail Real Estate Development Company on Lusail City.
One of Qatar’s largest developers, Lusail Real Estate Development Company is building Lusail City, Qatar’s showcase greenfield smart city. Ooredoo is deploying fixed-line broadband networks in Lusail City, which will enable innovative smart government and municipal services such as intelligent transport, smart metering and irrigation, and smart parking.
Yousuf Abdulla Al Kubaisi, COO, Ooredoo, said: “Winning the Best Smart City Collaboration award at the Broadband World Forum is a major milestone for Ooredoo. We are committed to providing the country’s best-in-class networks and services to transform daily lives in Lusail City, and sharing global best practices to enhance Qatar’s global standing as a leading Smart City innovator.”
Across Qatar, Ooredoo has built the best national broadband network, with up to 10 Gbps, to facilitate smart services for household and enterprise users.
Ooredoo and Lusail Real Estate Development Company have also developed world-class Smart City and smart services guidelines, ensuring services are aligned to infrastructure.
Eng Essa Mohammed Ali Kaldari, Chief Executive Officer, Lusail Real Estate Development Company, said: “Building a Smart City requires collaboration across stakeholders. Lusail City is seeing strong success thanks to our partnerships with Ooredoo, government agencies, and citizens in laying the foundation for next-generation citizen services. Ooredoo’s broadband networks enable Lusail City to become one of the world’s most advanced Smart Cities.”
In the coming months, Ooredoo is set to finalise a Smart City platform for real-time data analysis of smart services, leading to more efficient operations and faster response times. In Lusail City, Ooredoo and Lusail Real Estate Development Company are also rolling-out a smart metering pilot project for real-time utilities monitoring.
