The US Embassy in Qatar is calling on spoken word performers, musicians, poets and writers of all levels and ages to share their work at an Open Mic Night on Saturday, at Katara, under the theme ‘Transforming Obstacles into Opportunities’.
The evening is one of many special events organized for the US Embassy’s Discover America Festival. Open Mic Night is an opportunity for amateur performers, professionals, and everyone else who wants to express themselves, or try out new material and share their work with audience.
Prizes will be awarded for the best performances of the night. Those who wish to participate need to provide their name at the door to be given a slot for performance. The event takes place in Katara Building 15, Main Hall, on Saturday 6pm to 8pm.  The ‘Open Mic Night’ is being organized by the youth outreach initiative, the Young Writer’s Program, (YWP) a joint partnership between the US Embassy Qatar and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The mission of the program is to encourage Qatar’s youth to read, write, and think critically about important topics in society. Since the program’s inception in 2014, students from 122 Ministry schools have participated.
The event also forms part of Doha Learning Week, the flagship education festival of the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) taking place in Doha, from tomorrow until November 16.
The Discover America Festival will be on-going until November 18.
