London: American Brittney Reese claimed a fourth world long jump title yesterdaywhile titleholder and Olympic champion Tianna Bartoletta had to be content with the bronze.
Darya Klishina, competing as a neutral athlete after the Russian federation was banned over state-sponsored doping, took the silver and Serbia’s Ivana Spanovic missed out on a medal, finishing fourth.
Reese, Olympic champion at the same stadium five years ago, won the world title in 2009, 2011 and 2013 before her compatriot Bartoletta took gold in Beijing two years ago.
The 30-year-old Reese secured victory with her third jump of 7.02 metres, beating Klishina by two centimetres. Bartoletta was out of the medals until she produced a leap of 6.97 metres with her final attempt at the London Stadium.
