Qatar Museums (QM) has unveiled plans for a community ambassador programme designed to engage long-term residents of Qatar to become Honorary Cultural Ambassadors (HCA).

In recognition of the vibrant and diverse community that makes up Qatar, QM is looking for individuals who have embraced all that Qatar has to offer and are looking to share their passion with others.

The programme will gather a group of individuals who have demonstrated keen interest in Qatar’s cultural offering. HCAs will have the honour of meeting with distinguished VIP guests and accompanying them on tours of cultural sites, as well as offering their own views and interpretations of Qatar to allow the guests to fully experience and enjoy Qatar’s cultural and historical highlights.

Somaya Al Tamimi, Director of Strategy and Quality Assurance at Qatar Museums said:“Qatar is well known for its hospitality and we pride ourselves on being open and welcoming of all visitors.

We have such a diverse community, speaking more than 80 languages and hailing from every part of the world. We are thankful and proud of that diversity and want to share it with the world through this unique Honorary Cultural Ambassador programme which will help show the many sides of our country to the world,”

Following an application and review process, HCAs will take part in a comprehensive training during which they will attend a series of lectures on art, heritage, culture and history of Qatar. This will be led by knowledgeable field experts and complemented by tours to some of Qatar’s most unique destinations. In order to complete the programme and earn the HCA designation, participants will need to take part in two afternoon lectures and two full-day VIP tours to QM museums, exhibitions, heritage sites and other sites of interest.

Criteria for qualification include 5+ years residency in Qatar; proficiency in English (Arabic is a preference); fluency in at least one more language; interest and knowledge about art, heritage, culture, history of Qatar; availability and commitment to accompany VIP guests upon request; availability and commitment to attend the Honorary Cultural Ambassador Training Programme, preferably with bachelor degree and must be outgoing and sociable.
