Qatar Creating Vision holds blindfolded dinner

The Peninsula

The Qatar Creating Vision’s Blindfolded Dinner at the Oryx Rotana Hotel to mark World Sight Day was a roaring success with diners embracing the unusual experience. The evening encouraged participants to discover their senses and experience the world around them.
By taking away their dominant sense of sight, the diners explored, temporarily, how blind people experience everyday situations such as moving around a room, having diner and talking to friends. The 90 guests were then treated to a sumptuous dinner and encouraged to write down their feelings and the ingredients they tasted on the paper table cloths, once they had discovered their pens. Attendees listened to beautiful music, a cappella singing and stories from Orbis medical volunteer, Lousie Garnham, before removing their eye masks. Orbis is an eye care charity and leads the Qatar Creating Vision initiative, which will deliver 5.5 million eye tests and treatments to children in India and Bangladesh before 2020.
