QNB Stars League (QSL) top scorer Youssef El Arabi (pictured) of Al Duhail has twin targets on his mind as he goes about scoring goals on a consistent basis for his side.
The Moroccan, who has emerged as the top scorer with eight goals after four rounds of action in the QSL, seems to have began from where he left off from the last season.
The striker has an average of two goals per match this season so far and was the top scorer in the previous season with 24 goals. This season he has been in the best form and the striker netted four goals in their last match against Al Ahli, which they won 6-1.
El Arabi team is leading the points standings with an all-win record after four rounds and with 12 points in their kitty and the striker said they will be happy to lift the Flacon shield at the end of the QSL campaign.
“Winning the QNB Stars League title and making good progress in the AFC Champions League are my main ambitions. In the previous season, we were knocked out of the AFC Champions League due to some minor mistakes, but our team is better and stronger this time,” said El Arabi in an interview with QSL online.
“I’m very happy with such a good start by our side. Four games… four wins. Yes, this team has the potential to defend the title and that’s our main target,” he said.
Asked to name the rivals teams which will pose a threat to their title ambitions El Arabi said: “Al Sadd and Al Rayyan are also strong contenders for the league title. These teams are the best in the league and the competition between them will be very tough.” El Arabi also wants to finish at the league’s top scorer this season too.
“I’m very comfortable with scoring goals as I contribute to the team’s victories, I’ll do my best (to finish as top scorer). I would like to score more goals this season, given that I had missed nine matches last year due to an injury,” he said.
“We’ve some very good players and when I get excellent support from them, I do expect to score goals,” he added.
