Manila: At least 14 students were killed Monday when a passenger bus rammed into an electric post in a town east of the Philippine capital, a local disaster official said.
The accident occurred along a highway in Tanay town, about 38 kilometres east of Manila, according to Carlos Inofre, chief of the town's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Inofre said the passenger bus appeared to have suffered a brake malfunction while negotiating a downward-winding road in the village of Sampaloc.
About 50 passengers, all students from a college in suburban Quezon City, were aboard the bus.
Those injured in the accident, including the driver, were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
