El Jaish midfielder Sardor Rashidov (pictured) is confident his side can overcome the odds to defeat local rivals Lekhwiya to progress to the Qatar Cup final.
The defending champions are set to take on Lekhwiya today at Al Sadd Stadium, with the match kicking off at 7pm.
“We have the potential to reclaim the Qatar Cup again; we know what we need to do to against Lekhwiya and we are confident that we can progress to the final,” Sardor said ahead of the match.
“The Qatar Cup is always the hardest competition in Qatar, as it involves the four best sides in the QSL. However El Jaish have won the Qatar Cup twice in three seasons and that fact gives the squad a big boost ahead of the match against Lekhwiya” added the Uzbekistan international.
When asked about Lekhwiya, Rashidov revealed he expected a tough encounter against the Red Knights. “Lekhwiya are the current QSL champions, and matches between the two sides are always highly anticipated. They have a great squad full of strong players and they will push El Jaish all the way.
“Cup football is always a unique challenge especially when you know that if you lose you are eliminated immediately. We will be looking to reduce our errors in this match, and progress to the final again” claimed the winger, who has scored 15 goals in the QSL this season.
“We have had a difficult time in the league this season, but the Qatar Cup is a special competition for El Jaish. I think that we have the experience and know how to progress to the final and win the Qatar Cup again,” he added.
