Pakistan International School Qatar (PISQ) awarded with the ECO-Star Trophy in “E-waste management category” on January 21 for successfully completing ‘Waste Management Project’ that sought to create awareness among the students about the “recycling of the e-waste specifically of computers and cellphones”.
The ECO-Schools Programme Awards are handed out annually by Doha Bank to recognise schools that play an active role in propagating eco-consciousness among students and which demonstrates a high degree of innovation and creativity in successfully completing their green projects as part of the ECO-Schools Programme.
Students Rabia Ali, Areej Aqdas, Mumtaz Riaz, Rubab Fatima, Saba Ahmed, Fatima Gulzeb, Iqra Tahir, Wajeeha Hayat, Sana Saleem and Samaya Saleem took part in this project. Nishat Wajid and Reema Rashid coordinated and supervised them. This project was based upon the presentations, debates and discussions by the students. This project helped to create awareness among the students and how to dispose of the old computers and cellphones. The students shared the information with others about the potential environmental hazard of e-waste and its impact on human life. Students also learnt the methods of recycling the e-waste.
The main objective of the work was to clean up the electronic waste from the school.
Project coordinators Reema Rashid and Nishat Wajid received the trophy. Principal Nargis Raza Otho felicitated and appreciated the whole team for their effort.
