Emir sends message to prime minister of India

Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani sent Saturday a written message to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, pertaining to the bilateral relations and ways to develop them.

The Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani handed the message during a meeting with the Indian Prime Minister today.

Earlier Qatari Foreign Minister held talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi on Saturday.

The Indian side thanked Qatar for contributing significantly to India’s energy security, being the largest supplier of LNG. The FM assured India of continued Qatari support in this regard through uninterrupted energy supplies.

Sheikh Mohammed conveyed appreciation for the contribution of the 630,000 strong Indian community which forms the largest expatriate group in Qatar. The Minister assured India of the continued safety, welfare and well-being of the Indian community and briefed the Indian side about new labour laws in Qatar which favour expatriate workers.

On regional issues, Sheikh Mohammed briefed his Indian interlocutors about the situation in the Gulf region. He was briefed about India’s position that peace and security in the Gulf are of paramount importance for the continued progress and prosperity of the region.

India is of the view that parties should resolve their differences through a process of constructive dialogue and peaceful negotiations.
