A widow and her children with sheep provided by RAF for breeding under income generation project implemented in Morocco.
Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has implemented three income generation projects at a cost of QR600,000 for dozens of poor families especially those caring orphan children in Morocco.
The project was financed by endowment fund of Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah for charity works.
The beneficiaries were provided agricultural machines and tools like tractors, cultivators and irrigation pipes to make livelihood for them and their families. Others were given animals like sheep and goats for breeding. Some poor families were financed to open poultry farms and bakeries and technical workshops to earn money so they can cover their expenditures.
Most deserving families were selected through a feasible study conducted by RAF in collaboration of its two local partners in Morocco, Atlas Association for Development and Humanitarian Services and Al Salam Association for Social Development.
First project was implemented in the villages and towns of Bin-Sulayman, Marrakesh-Safi and Sus-Masa governorates. Fifteen families comprising 75 members benefited in these areas from the development projects.
The income generation projects include small businesses; a bakery, three beekeeping farms, two trades for ghee, two poultry farms, mill machine for edible oil, two shops for selling pastries, a tailoring shop, an animal breading farm and a photo studio.
Second project was launched by RAF in three areas in southern part of the country; Al Rashidiya, Medlit and Tanghir. The project aimed at increasing agricultural productions. Some 30 drought hit families were financed to cultivate palms and other fruit trees. They were provided water pumps powered with solar system and seeds. Some families were also given hens for breeding. More than 150 members of the beneficiary families benefitted from the project.
Third project was about social development. It was implemented in the above mentioned three areas of southern part of the country. The project named Al Braka meant to set up bakeries for making breads and sweets.
Forty widows with five to seven family members for each were involved for making the products, packaging and selling. At least 220 people benefited from this project.
RAF is not only financing the needy and poor families to establish their businesses but it keep following up in several phases to solve the problems the beneficiary would face.
