GCC Golf Championship 2016 to tee off at DGC tomorrow

Doha: Qatar Golf Association (QGA) in association with Qatar Olympic Committee will host the GCC Golf Championship 2016 from March 1 to 5, it was announced here yesterday.
Addressing a press conference at the Doha Golf Club Fahad Nasser Al Naimi, General Secretary of QGA said the five-day championship is expected to be a keenly contested and golfers from all the six GCC countries have confirmed their participation.
“Golfers from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are taking part in the championship and they will be reaching Doha on Monday,” said Fahad Nasser.
“We have completed all the arrangements for hosting the championship and we are expecting a tough fight in the race for the title. The championship will be held in two categories,” said Mohammed Faisal Al Naimi, Executive Director of QGA.

Hosts Qatar have seven golfers taking part in the event and will vie for top honours in both juniors and seniors. Four home golfers will be competing in the seniors and three golfers from the host nation will see action in the junior category. 
The seniors will be involved in four rounds of action and the final round will take place on March 5, while a champion will be spotted in the junior category after three rounds on March 4.
Qatar senior team consists of  Abdulrahman Al Shahrani, Saleh Al Kaabi , Ali Al Shahrani and Ghanim Al Kuwari while the Qatar junior team is made up of Saoud Al Muhannadi, Sami Hussam and Arnev Jain.
The opening ceremony will be held tomorrow at 3.30pm while the closing function will take place on March 5 at 3.30pm.
