Qatar Racing’s Lightning Spear claims first victory of the season

Doha: Qatar Racing’s Lightning Spear managed to gain his first win this season by imposing himself in the Celebration Mile (Gr 2) at Goodwood on Saturday.
Trained by David Simock, the five year-old was third is the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot this year. It was far easier for him this time and he ran out an easy winner.  He registered his first black success. Cheveley Park Stud’s Zonderland came second ahead of Qatar Racing’s Arod.  “That’s a massively relief, honestly”, said Simcock.
“We’ve always thought the world of him and he was brilliantly nurtured by Olly Stevens. “We were so pleased with his first start in the Queen Anne and watching his last two races, you wouldn’t believe it and you feel sorry for the horse as he’s very, very good. I’m not one to hype horses and I think he’s really talented. He’s got a really good turn of foot. Everything is aimed towards Ascot now and we’ll have a really good go at the QEII,” he added.
