M.E.S India. School-No pity on students Tuesday, 03 May 2011 03:00

The report about the long morning assembly sessions in the open at the MES Indian School (“Expat school draws flak over outdoor assembly”, Gulf Times, April 30) raises awareness about a serious issue. It has long been a practice with the school to hold such prolonged assemblies even when it is extremely hot outside, often causing health problems to pupils, especially those in the lower classes.

It is high time the Supreme Education Council issued a directive to schools against conducting long assemblies outside when it is extremely hot.Though the medical corporation has already warned the school not to keep assemblies or any sort of programmes in hot weather & make the students stand long under the sun, the school does not seem to take any action. If it is any special occasion it can be understoon but every week 2 days the students are made to conduct assembly which is really of no use.

I would like the government & the management to take an action against this problem. The assembly can be held in a hall or atleast the schools can provide some refreshments after the assembly.
