SEC launches parallel education programme Tuesday, 27 July 2010 01:43
The Supreme Education Council started the implementation of a parallel education programme under the Independent Schooling system for the first time recently.
The Education Institute has announced the beginning of registration for Grade 12 students in the parallel education (home schooling) programme for the academic year 2010/2011.
Registration, which runs from July 20 to July 26, is restricted to Qatari students, students from other Gulf countries, and students with Qatari mothers. It will take place in all secondary schools during official working hours.
Minister of Education and Higher Education Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, who is also the Secretary-General of the SEC, said the SEC was keen to link the national education policy with the objectives and plans of the education programmes.
He said this parallel education programme marked the beginning of a new promise to produce quality national education outputs, particularly among those unable to complete secondary education.
“The programme offers fair opportunities to students whereby they can receive all the support needed to meet the standards of learning without having to attend classes regularly,” said Sabah Al Haidoos, the director of the Education Institute.
“A guidebook detailing options and possible support mechanisms will soon be issued and distributed among students,” she added.
Al Haidoos said registration was limited to students who succeeded in QSSC exams (2009/2010) but wish to improve their overall score.
She added that it was also open to students who failed in QSSC exams (2009/2010) and were expelled due to being overage or repeated failure.
Documents required for the registration include certificate of success – failure or certified cancellation letters, original ID and passport (plus copies) and tow passport-size photos.
“The SEC is urging individuals to take advantage of the educational opportunities available by registering on time,” Al Haidoos said.
