Qatari selected to represent Arabs at major conference Tuesday, 10 August 2010 02:13
The sessions of the Arab Youth Forum that was held in the Syrian capital of Damascus came to an end last week, bringing the curtain down on heated discussions on participation and the empowerment of Arab youth.
The forum, which was held under the title, ‘I Participate Therefore I Exist’, saw 120 youngsters from almost every Arab country debating important issues, such as participation and the empowerment of youth. Qatari participants were also active in the event.
“The children of Qatar made many gains during the forum,” read a statement by the Damascus-based Childhood Cultural Centre. “These achievements complement those made by the people of Qatar on all fronts,” the statement added.
The forum’s participants chose Qatari child Abdullah Abdul Rahman Siddiqi to represent them in the 4th Arab Conference on Children's Rights in Marrakech in November. A host of concerned Arab ministers are expected to attend the event.
Discussions in the forum dwelt in part on Qatar, which managed to win admiration from the participants, who came from 16 Arab countries.
Siddiqi was an active member of the sessions of the forum, which focused on the rights of children and the rights Qatari children enjoyed.
The Director of the Family and Childhood Department at the Arab League, Mona Kamel, applauded the role Qatar has played to bolster inter-Arab cooperation in all fields.
