Vancouver: The Boston Bruins scored three times without reply to rally from a two-goal deficit and complete a 4-3 home victory against the Ottawa Senators yesterday.
After falling 3-1 behind in the second period, Boston’s Milan Lucic instigated the fightback with a goal in the final minute before the break on a day when the NHL resumed after the All-Star break.
Brad Marchand and Dennis Seidenberg added further goals in the third as the Stanley Cup champions undid all the hard work the Senators had put in to forge a healthy advantage.
“Obviously, I liked our third period. We, for some reason, started moving the puck better, and we started getting pucks past those guys,” Bruins coach Claude Julien told reporters.
“We kind of reversed things in the third period and, with some good defensive play, we got ourselves back into the game.”
Ottawa served as host city for Sunday’s All-Star Game but the Senators (27-20-6) had their party crashed, taking a fourth straight loss on the chin despite their strong start.
Zdeno Chara gave the Bruins a 1-0 edge midway through the first but Ottawa’s Colin Greening made a tip-in to equalise a little over a minute before the interval.
Kyle Turris and Erik Karlsson each buried shots for the Senators in the second to put the visitors out front.
Goaltender Tim Thomas, fresh off his win in the star-studded exhibition this past weekend, made 30 saves for the Bruins (32-14-2), who pulled within a point of the East-leading New York Rangers.
