Muhammad: The Prophet of mercy Friday, 09 July 2010 06:57

Dr Ramzi Al Saeed

Islam is a source of enlightenment for Muslims in life. It shows them the way to escape Hell and have their place in heaven in the hereafter when neither money nor sons can help. Only good deeds - things done for the satisfaction of God - can do.

The light of Islam shatters superstition, myth, and illusions. This light guides man straight to the right path of Allah. These are reasons why man should stick firmly to Islam.

Having followed the right path to the Almighty’s satisfaction, man can get nothing but perfect happiness both in life and in the afterlife. By delivering the message of God to mankind, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has brought this endless good to the world. Prophet Muhammad - the icon of righteousness - has brought this happiness to the world by honestly delivering the message of Allah.

Mankind is in bad need for mercy, care, and tenderness. Humans need to extend their hands out in friendliness to others. They need to have a constant flow of patience that can eclipse the ignorance of some and the weakness of others.

Humanity is in need of a tender heart that offers help without waiting to take anything back in return. They need a heart that pays attention to their cares and shows tolerance and forgiveness at every turn. This had actually been Prophet Muhammad’s heart.

Islam’s Prophet never had personal feelings of anger at anything, never showed intolerance to human frailty. He had never thought of keeping any material property for himself. He, however, willingly gave out everything he had to others.

The Prophet’s friends loved him greatly and cherished his behaviour thanks to his ceaseless mercy.

Muhammad’s message to humanity marked the most important incident in human history. This message was more like a new dawn for humanity. The Prophet’s sun had just shattered the darkness of pre-Islam times.

The Prophet liberated humans from the claws of ignorance, old illusions, and daft habits. His manners were a great merit that distinguished the mission of a great messenger.

He used to define this mission by the few words: “I am sent to perfect morality”.

In fact, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was sent to make people’s hearts live in peace. This encourages me to say that Islam is the religion of love, hope, and moderation. Islam‘s Shariah (law) is based on right and justice, its rulings ensure a peaceful life for everybody.

The Prophet sought to spread love and happiness among humans, leaving no stone unturned to do that. He taught his companions and the Muslim nation how to love others. He encouraged Muslims to love each other as well.

The Prophet instructed his companions to make their relationships with others based on the love of Allah, the love of good, and the love of humanity. His mission was simply an invitation for love.

Muslims, undoubtedly, try to follow in the footsteps of the Prophet, the greatest man ever born. They try to follow the man who was the epitome of mercy at its most elevated form. They follow the man God wanted them to follow.  This is sufficient reason for us to abide by the Prophet’s order that we be obedient and rightful. Muhammad never wanted to control Muslims’ lives. He, however, wanted to lead us all to the right path to God’s mercy.  Muhammad’s mercy was manifest in his instruction that humans be keen on good and avoid sin. The Prophet had full belief that God was everything.
