High moral standards Friday, 18 June 2010 05:41
Dr Ramzi Al Saeed
Muslims should be committed to high moral standards. They should be servile, and obedient in a way that satisfies God.
Islam is a way of life and its teachings should be applied to all walks of life. That was why Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was keen to define his mission by saying, “I have been sent to idealise morals”.
To a non-Muslim, good morals might be related to good upbringing and distinguished education. To a Muslim, however, the same term is related to obeying God, and following in the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
A Muslim with good morals can also enjoy perfect happiness in heaven. Good morals are the best thing one can have in life.
The sorry thing is that some Muslims do not care to reach these high moral standards. Some people perform prayers, but at the same time allow their hearts to be full of envy, and hatred. They treat others badly, abstain from helping others, and displease relatives and neighbours.
Masquerading as good Muslims, these people do all types of evil deeds with hearts full of evil. This is why prophet Muhammad (PBUH) warned against these people.
High moral standards are paramount in Islam. That is why God was keen to mention these standards while addressing the prophet: “And surely you are of a great morality”.
(Surah Al Qalam, verse 4)
This shows that good morality means true Islam. It contributes to the presence of peace and love in society.
