Qatar Ready to Host Intl Conference on Jerusalem, Says Al-Rumaihi Thursday, 23 December 2010 08:07

Cairo - HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for Follow-up Mohamed bin Abdullah Al-Rumaihi has underlined the State of Qatar's keenness on enhancing the Palestinian cause and the support of Jerusalem which is considered an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories. Al-Rumaihi, who is also Chairman of the Foreign Ministry's Permanent Committee for Organizing Conferences, said efforts were ongoing for convening the two-day Jerusalem International Conference on 2 February 2011.

Addressing a joint press conference with Arab League Assistant Secretary General Mohamed Subaih, held at the close of the preparatory meeting held here at the Arab League Headquarters to discuss preparations for  the Doha 6th Jerusalem International Conference,  Al-Rumaihi said the Qatari and Arab League's efforts will continue to fully prepare fully for the Conference, which was decided to be held next February 2 under the sponsorship of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and which will be attended by a large number of international and regional figures as well as civil society organizations.

He added that invitations have been extended to many world, Arab and Muslim countries to attend the Conference in which participants from 70 countries will attend, in addition to experts and figures belonging to all the divine religions.

Responding to a question by Qatar News Agency (QNA) correspondent on Qatar's preparations for the Conference and its theme, Al-Rumaihi underlined the significance of the conference which he said will greatly contribute to concentrating on the issue of Jerusalem to become the focus of regional and international attention.

He added that it will also contribute to dealing with the issue in an expanded manner by the media as well as the focus on the historical facts and legal aspects pertaining to Jerusalem, the refuting of Israeli allegations on the holy city and to work for deepening the civil society's role in defending and protecting Jerusalem.

HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for Follow-up Affairs said this important conference comes as a revitalization of decisions taken by the 22nd Arab summit meeting, held in the Libyan city of Sirte in March.

Asked about the Conference's emblem, Al-Rumaihi said it will be almost similar to the Arab League's emblem and will depict the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Dome of the Rock, the Church of the Resurrection and the Dove of Peace in addition to the Conference's title.

He explained that it will be held at the conference Centre at Sheraton Doha Hotel.

On the financial commitments for Jerusalem support approved by Arab summits and which have not been met yet, Al-Rumaihi said the issue will be given priority at the discussions, hoping that all the conference's recommendations and resolutions would be implemented.
