BEIJING: Amid the new spat between the United States and Iran over the alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador to the US, China has called for measures to safeguard stability in the Middle East and Gulf.
US President Barack Obama has vowed to apply the “toughest sanctions” on Iran for allegedly plotting to assassinate the Saudi envoy to Washington.
The US has called for new tougher sanctions on Iran and enjoined the international community to do the same.
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, they are observing closely the situation as another disturbance in the Middle East and the Gulf region may have considerable consequences on global security.
"We have taken note of the related reports and responses from various parties," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said. (QNA)
