Some of the 15 freed Palestinian prisoners flash the V-sign for victory as they leave Doha airport early on October 19, 2011, as a part of a prisoner exchange deal between the Palestinian Hamas movement and Israel in which over 1000 Palestinians were released in exchange for captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Israel began releasing 1,027 Palestinians in two stages in exchange for the handover of Shalit, who was snatched by Hamas militants in June 2006.
