Saudi Embassy confirms death of Saudi national in Syria Tuesday, 22 November 2011 12:23
RIYADH: An official source in the Saudi Embassy in Syria had confirmed that a Saudi citizen had died in the violence in Syria.
The source who asked not to be named as he was not authorized to issue a statement even identified the name of the Saudi national who was killed dawn Monday in Homs. He was identified as Hussein Bin Bandar Bin Khalaf Al-Anzi.
The Embassy said that as per information reaching them, the man was visiting relatives in the city of Homs when the tragic incident happened.
So far, Saudi authorities, according to the Saudi Press Agency had not received any official communication from Syrian authorities nor from his immediate family about the incident.
The Source said, "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia views with great concern this criminal attack. The Embassy has contacted Syrian competent authorities to know about the circumstances surrounding this crime and demanded the arrest of the perpetrators and bring them to justice; and it will follow up with these authorities.''
The Embassy called on Saudi nationals in Syria to stay away from the areas of tension for their own safety, also calling on them for continuing communication with the Embassy so that the Embassy can communicate with them or their families for any emergency.
It can be recalled that in recent weeks, forces loyal to the Bashir Al Assad administration in Syria have attacked embassies of countries they thought are sympathetic to the opposition.
This development also came as the Arab League’s demand for sweeping reports in Syria and for the cessation of violent dispersals of protests elapsed. (Reports from QNA)
