Qatar Motor Show to open on Jan 25

DOHA: The looming Second International Edition of Qatar Motor Show 2012 promises a more thrilling experience to car-lovers as the organising committee announced to have new additions as Formula One test drives, motorbikes and stunt riders in the list of events, a senior official of the Qatar Tourism Authority said yesterday .

“Shell Qatar, the Diamond Sponsor of the event is expected to bring Scuderia Ferrari Formula One test driver, Marc Gene to hold a breath-taking demonstration along the Corniche,” said Lahdan Ghanim Al Mohannadi, Head of Local Exhibitions at QTA in a press conference.

The Motor Show will open to the public from January 25 to 28 at the Doha Exhibition Center featuring over 70 exhibitors showcasing automobiles, motorbikes and accessories as well as unique automotive experience to Qatar’ car-loving community.

For this second edition, visitors can expect exclusivity, action, thrills, and a few surprises.

“We have improved the show this year in terms of interactivity, outdoor shows and better chances for the visitors to participate,” added Al Mohannadi.  

On the show, apart from leading international brands, the most prestigious names in Italian automotive designs will return to the Qatar Motor Show with latest models.

“This show is more than just an everyday automotive event. With the Qatar Motor Show we aim to spark new developments in the automotive industry based in Qatar, and at the same time offer a truly unique automotive experience to the residents of Qatar,” said Dany Hachem, Group Events Adviser at

“The inaugural edition of the Qatar Motor Show exceeded our expectations on all levels – from the number of exhibitors and product previews to the attendance of many high profile industry VIPs and the overall total number of visitors. It was a huge success,” added Hachem.

He further added: “We have been working hard to make the 2012 edition more exciting, more international and more entertaining, and we succeeded. We added an even bigger outdoor programme around motor sports, organised in association with Red Bull. And we are extremely proud that we can announce Qatar Shell as our new Diamond sponsor.

The 2012 Qatar Motor Show is held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Foreign  Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani.

Apart from Shell, Qatar Holding is the main sponsor of the 2012 Qatar Motor Show, and the W Doha Hotel and Residences is the official hotel.

Internationally, Qatar’s 17 percent stake in Volkswagen AG is well known. But there is more. At the Qatar Science and Technology Park, companies like Shell and Williams F1 are investing in the development of technology that contributes to the future of mobility and it will showcase this and more at the show.
