Restoration of Wakra’s historic core Saturday, 28 May 2011 01:04

Wakrah, a city south of Doha, was an important port city with a rich heritage of fishing and pearl diving. The abandoned houses and the mosque near the Wakrah beach are now being restored. The Al Wakra Museum (also under restoration) has a rich collection of artefacts that give a glimpse into the lives of people in the country in earlier days. This multi-billion dollar project has a special focus on the restoration of Wakra’s historic core which, with its traditional architecture, retains a distinctive identity.
