Why our national wealth goes abroad? Wednesday, 18 May 2011 03:24

During the last five years, migrants who reside in Qatar transferred more than 100 billion riyals to their home countries, while in the last year alone, they transferred almost 29 billion riyals. What are we expecting from them? They came here to work and establish themselves and these are their wages and rights so no one can question it.

Are we in need of such employees, especially in the higher end who use our fortune and transfer them outside?

In the government sector, talented Qataris have been neglected, marginalised and replaced by foreigners wasting billions on them. Why Qatari people are prepared, taught and trained if they had to languish without using this taelnt and experience?

In business and private sectors, we are oppressed by the Qataris while the thread and needle are given to expatriates who commit fraud and escape. At the same time, we are not surprised that the expatriates work under the names of Qataris and their sponsorship for a trivial amount. We do not condemn the dependency of overall young people on foreign labour even if it is cheap but a part of which is not significant for the income of the country.

There is a governmental and popular disregard for competencies available within the country and its resources which are transferred outside while the citizen is deprived of it. May Allah cover the adverse consequences on the national economy in the future.

These funds go to the expatriate hands working in non-commercial and commercial sectors, but why the people of our country don’t work? Why the state does not trust its people and make them sit in their homes suffering from depression and injustice? What mechanisms the state has adopted for their employment?

Why the Qataris don’t stand against the charges of laziness and ineptitude while they are smart, active, productive and complete the circle of coalition against them by relying on foreigners in their trade and the matters of private sector?

The billions spent on expatriates are the rights of our country, our citizens. This is the time to address the problem and not make accusations, create awareness not discord, put in sincere efforts.

The time has come to fully use the talents of our countrymen and employ them. Outsiders have looted us and caused damage to our internal interests.

Yes, Mr.Mohammed you are absolutely correct. Whoever wrote this article is solely showing hatred towards the expats, but should understand that without expats this development would not have happened.

For Qataris who are truly 'talented' and hard working, there is absolutely NOTHING to stop them from achieving ANYTHING they want. In both the public and private sectors, the highest offices and the most well paid jobs are available to them IF they have the right skills and abilities. In fact, even if they DON'T have the right skill and abilities, the Qatarization policy ensures that they can have a good job even if they fulfill the most basic requirements.

Regarding the 100 Billion riyals sent over a five year period by the over 1 million expats that live in Qatar. Even if you have some BASIC mathematics skills, talents or abilities, you will realize that this amounts to LESS THAN 2000 riyals per month per expat! This is even FAR LESS than the average monthly payments that many Qataris spend on a SINGLE vehicle!

If you actually allowed expats to feel at home and settled in this country, it is very unlikely that many of them would send so much money abroad.

Dear Editor,

The questions in your mind are fine and you know the answers very well. I strongly condemned the last sentence used by the originator of the article because if you see from the professional point of view, no one is looting the money but working hard in shaping the present and future of the deserted land. Moreover the expats are shining lights to the glooming economy.
