Where are Qatari journalists? Wednesday, 19 October 2011 05:03

Is it reasonable that despite our distinct media competencies, the only place they have is the columns of the newspapers. The non editing functions were not operated properly. If the press and publications law had imposed this term on the owners of the institutions, perhaps the situation would have been different!!

The time is passing and the cadres are qualified while the others came to face the same fate in terms of negligence, which is prevailing in the institutions of media, culture, radio, television and the journalism. It reminds me of an incident that may be an unpardonable error as some distinct media personalities were qualified for the governing body of the editor of Al-Doha for some years, and then they were dropped quickly. The only reason is that they are Qataris and if they were not so they would have been there without any fair!!

Most of the journalists could not emerge except a few as they were very close to the institutions, but their role was promotional and they were not given the opportunity to show their talents and abilities. They were appointed far away without finding the true environment for their right by giving them a space to take decision. They lost between finding the retention with satisfaction that is the sole guarantor of their posts and temptations of those posts, which made them forget their role in the change and struggle to challenge the negative, rejection, postponement and ignorance.

Can you believe that this talk was started thirty years ago and we still continue to repeat it? How many generations passed? The third generation is facing the same tragedy. These media and cultural institutions were assessed on the basis of provision of media patterns that perform their role and duty in these areas. The Qatari creator was not protected and he was not saved from destruction in silence and emptiness. The truth is that these media institutions contributed to his burning and killing, but it burnt his heart and removed him from the scene. It is still fighting against him and undermining him. The media institutions recognize their patterns with their feathers that are well decorated with the fake colour and deal only with the canned imported products and there is no local authenticity. I also do not recognize the Qatari creator, as we said, for his decoration on the propaganda booklets of media for export and the pride in front of the visiting delegations.

We don’t blame the expatriates who are afraid of qualified citizens and their replacement. It is natural as they protect the source of their livelihood and are afraid of competition. We blame the responsible citizens who do not know that it is one of their basic duties to get the sons of the land qualified and give them the confidence, will and space for speech and they must not deprive the qualified of their right in excellence, creativity and change. The people of the country ask why we do not have citizen journalists. The simple answer is that the officials do not want them.
