DOHA: The National Day Celebration Organising Committee yesterday announced the formal launch of its flagship portal http://www.ndqatar.com on the occasion of Qatar National Day. The government related portal aims to engage the community in the events and activities taking place on Qatar’s National Day.

“It gives us great pleasure to unveil the Qatar National Day Portal on this occasion. The portal has been developed in line with the objective of providing a truly unique web destination for web users who want to know more about Qatar National Day and the various festivities associated with this wonderful occasion. We have also utilized state-of-the-art technology in the form of Microsoft SharePoint 2010 as collaboration platform of choice for the website. This will give web users a wonderful experience while they browse through the portal to access easily accessible information through this advanced portal,” said a spokesperson from the State National Day Celebration Organising Committee.

The core of the portal is the events module, aiming to highlight National Day celebrations. The site is all integrated with a multiple views calendar, a list of activitiews and details, along with content and media relevant to the events. The site offers various social network integration features with visitors to the website being able to log in with their Facebook account, minimising time spent registering on the portal.

Additionally, they can share and post pages from the portal on their Facebook or Twitter accounts even from mobile devices. The website is also fully integrated with YouTube and Flickr enabling visitors to fetch the updated real time photos and videos through the NDQatar YouTube and Flickr channels.

Within the portal is also an animated sketch of Doha which highlights the various events taking place across Qatar as well as their locations with just a click of a mouse. The integrated satellite view map of Qatar displays driving directions to the desired locations.

Launched by the National Day Celebration Organising Committee, the advanced technological applications service is designed to provide easy access to online information and fun downloadable items for such kind of mobile phones. Qatar National Day Apps allow users to get updated news and event information about Qatar National Day at anytime, and with consummate ease.

Application features include regularly updated online information on all today’s events including pinpoint location details enabling users to find out exactly what is happening, and where.
