Shotgun Championship begins today at Losail Friday, 03 February 2012 03:23

 

 

DOHA: Qatar Open Shotgun Championship organised by Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation (QSAF) will begin from today at the Losail Shooting Complex it was announced here yesterday.

Some of the world’s top shooters will compete in the $70,000 in the five-day event.

Seventy-nine compeitors from 13 countires will be seen in action.

QSAF President Mohammed bin Ali Al Ghanim Al Maadeed informed that 49 Qatari shooters would take part in the event.

“The Qatar Open tournament will have an expanded field of competitors this time around. We’ll field 16 women and 32 men in it this year. The feedback we received so far has been exceptional. We’ll continue to strive for higher standards,” he said.

The competition for men and women, will be held in trap, double trap and skeet categories.

The event will end on Monday.

The women’s skeet and trap finals will be held today while the men’s events in the same categories will be held the next day. The double trap finals, for men and women, will be on Monday.

The top-six shooters in each category will be awarded cash prizes.

1st place winners will get $ 5000.

The other prize money incentives are as follows: 2nd place $ 4000, 3rd Place $ 3000, 4th Place $ 2000, 5th place $ 1000 and 6th place $1000

Some of the top guns taking part include Satu Makela-Nummela of Finland.  Makela-Nummela is a Olympic Gold Medalist at the  Beijing 2008

Others prominent shooters include Erik Varga of Slovakia -  2011 European Champion  World Champion 1994,

Zuzana Stefecekova Slovakia -  Olympic Silver Medalist in Beijing 2008 2010 World Champion Silver Medalist in World Championships 2011, Oguzhan Tuzun of Turkey - 1999 Junior World Champion Winner of World Cup Final in 2010 Winner of one World Cup in 2011, Nihan Kantarci of Turkey, 1999 European Champion, Cidgem Ozyaman of Turkey 2011 European Champion, Daniele Di Spigno of Itlay,  four-time World Champion 7 times European Champion winner of seven World Cups, Francesco D’aniello of Italy - Olympic Silver Medalist in Beijing 2008 2 times World Champion 2 times European Champion and Waldemar Schanz of Germany - two-time Silver medalist In World Championships Winner of two World Cups.

Besides the host the other 12 countries taking part are Algeria,    Bulgaria, Finland,  Germany,   Greece, Italy, Libya, Pakistan, Russia, Slovakia                       Turkey and UAE.
