Fiesta Pinoy 2010 at Sealine wows crowds Sunday, 06 June 2010 06:37

By CHRIS V PANGANIBAN

DOHA: A colourful show by nine Filipino body painting artistes inspired with ethnic tribal stage performances that awed the audience in excitement capped the evening of the day-long festive event dubbed “Fiesta Pinoy 2010” at the Sealine Beach Resort over the weekend.

The first ever “Fiesta Illuminada” performed by body painting enthusiasts depicting unique styles and themes before a packed Filipino and other expatriate crowd took centre stage of the community event sponsored by Sealine management as a fitting tribute and preview to the 112th Philippine Independence Day celebration on June 11. The weekend gathering was indeed successful with an estimated 2,500 guests taking their day out to witness an array of festive activities organised by Doha Pinoy Events Group (DPEG).

A DPEG official said the events was meant to showcase the Filipinos sense of belongingness and cultural pride as a way of honouring the nationalistic fervour in celebrating more than a century of their country’s declaration as a free and independent nation in the world.

As early as 8am, the entire stretch of the Sealine beach was filled with exhibits from different groups and Filipino partner companies that it was an opportune time for holiday goers to learn more about services and products of varied interests.

Exhibit participants included United Filipino Architects Association Qatar, Doha Pinoy Shooters Club, Western Union, Al Tayyeb Electronics Store, Pilipino Star Ngayon, MediaCom karaoke, Pag-ibig Home Development Fund, Jollibee, CG Pinoy, Cocina Filipina Restaurant and many others.

Philippine Ambassador to Qatar, Crescente Relacion together with Vietnamese Ambassador to Qatar Phung The Long and his wife graced the occasion. In his message, Relacion called on his countrymen for greater unity and rally behind the new Philippine president who will assume office on July 1.

Aside from exhibits and food bazaar, guests were also enjoying fun-filled activities like different outdoor games and a concert by Filipino bands led by Zyklone who performed in between the programmes held at the well-designed stage set up opposite the beach. The increasingly popular Beats and Bytes Dancers under the tutelage of Rocky Lumicao added glitz and glamour to the event.

Abdul Shukoor, Sealine Beach Resort General Manager, expressed elation at the outcome of the event as he assured the management would always support significant future Filipino events. The Peninsula

Where is the erratum? This should be corrected and give due credit to WARP.

@Elsa Go Tan
"It might be because WARP is not known in the Filipino Groups community" So you mean if you don't know the Group, you will put another group instead? What a reason. Maybe you forgot that this is a newspaper, not just an ordinary post, this is about responsible journalism.

"what is WARP anyways? a photography club?" What a lucky guess, i thought you never heard about WARP =)

"Exhibit participants included United Filipino Architects Association Qatar, Doha Pinoy Shooters Club, Western Union, Al Tayyeb Electronics Store, Pilipino Star Ngayon, MediaCom karaoke, Pag-ibig Home Development Fund, Jollibee, CG Pinoy, Cocina Filipina Restaurant and many others." --- Can you please correct the details, DPSC is not included in the exhibitors, and WARP who is one of the exhibitors is not included in your list of exhibitors. Please double check form the organizers.
