Vodafone supports Doha Mums kids’ library Sunday, 14 November 2010 05:55

DOHA: Children from more than 80 countries will benefit from the latest Vodafone Qatar ‘Better World’ partnership with volunteer group Doha Mums.

Vodafone Qatar stepped in to provide ‘emergency sponsorship’ when Doha Mums launched Qatar’s first Children’s Library co-op at the Kumon Learning Center in Souq Waqif, paying the excess baggage fees to ship 70kg of donated books to Doha.

“The new Doha Mums Children’s Library supported by Vodafone is a magical place where children of all nationalities can explore the wonderful world of reading and storytelling,” said Luisa Gentile, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility of Vodafone Qatar. “We were very happy to support a much needed initiative in the local community as part of our commitment to making a “World of difference for all the people in Qatar.”

Future plans for the Vodafone Qatar-Doha Mums partnership go way beyond shipping books. “Together we are exploring ideas about how we can help Doha Mums to reinvent themselves professionally and discover their core strengths,” adds Gentile.

Doha Mums is a volunteer-based group of approximately 880 women from 87 countries. Group members organise up to 100 events every month for mums, kids and families on a voluntary basis. There are no fees to join and mums of all nationalities and religions are welcome in Doha Mums.

Roxanne Davis, Founder and Director of Doha Mums, said: “We are excited to be associated with Vodafone Qatar, a company who shows so much social responsibility in Qatar. Together we aim to work on projects which will enrich the lives of many people in Qatar.”

“The Children’s Library has a selection of over 800 books and we hope to eventually offer toys and games as well. We hope that more mums who haven’t visited the library before will come along and see what is on offer.”
