Queen of Saudi design to open Qatar branch Saturday, 05 March 2011 02:14

DOHA: Saudi singer and fashion designer Waed (pictured), has expressed gratitude for Qatar’s hospitality and appreciation of her craft and said she is planning to put up a branch here to make her creations available to Qatari ladies.

Waed was speaking on the sidelines of the 4th International Wedding Exhibition & Fashion Show (IWED 2011) which she together with prominent businesswoman Mona Al Sulaiti opened on Thursday. The Saudi superstar has brought some of her latest and exciting creations for the luxury event expected to draw 12,000 visitors in its four-day run.

“The gowns that I have here ranges from fun and casual chic to high octane red carpet glamour, which I designed myself using high quality materials because I look at the gowns as a customer and not as a designer. I design gowns that I like, comfortable and elegant,” she said.

Admired throughout the Middle East for her stunning vocal prowess, incredible beauty and unique dress sense, Waed’s love for fashion started at a young age. After much encouragement from friends and fans alike she launched Waed Line, her unique fashion collection with every piece designed by the ‘Queen of Saudi Design’.

“Fashion designing for me started as a hobby. Many people would call me saying they like my dresses so I said okay I’ll do it as a business. My sisters are also in the fashion business so I decided I’d do it myself and my way,” she recalled.

Expressing her thanks to her Qatari fans, she said: “I’m happy for their hospitality and the way they appreciate what I do both as a singer and as a designer,” adding one of the reasons why she came to Doha was for the possibility of opening a branch here in addition to other branches such as in Beirut.
