Israel trumps the Arab world Saturday, 25 June 2011 01:50

DOHA: There is no doubt that Israel is superior to all Arab countries in the sphere of Information Technology, a comparative study between Arab nations and Israel on ‘Scientific Research and Patent Rights Compared’ conducted by Dr Khalid Said Rubaia, a Palestinian researcher at American Arab University in Palestine, says.

Israel spends 4.7 percent of its total GDP on scientific research, which is the highest in the world. However, Arab states are spending 0.2 percent of their total incomes and Asian Arab countries around 0.5 percent of their incomes on research, said
the report.

Regarding patent rights, Israel has registered 16,805 patents. However, Arab countries have only 836 patents which is 5 percent of what Israel has.

Israel spends 0.8-1 percent of the total expenditure of the world on research work and Arab states spend 0.4 percent. It means Israel spends more than double that spent by Arab countries in
this field.

Israel spends 4.7 percent of its income on research. However, Arab countries spend 0.2 percent of their total income on the same. United States spends about 2.7 percent of its income, UK 1.8 and Germany 2.6 percent on research work.

Asian Arab countries spend less than 0.1 percent of their total income on research work which is five times less than African countries which are spending 0.5 percent of their total income, according to a Unesco report. Arab countries spend about half of Israel though their GDP soared 11 times that of Israel and the area is more than 649 times.

Regarding per capita expenditure on scientific research, Israel stands at the number one position by spending $1272.8 per capita. United States ranks second with $1205.9 and Japan third by spending $1153.3. However, the Arab countries ranked hundred times less than Israel by spending an average of $14.7 annually per capita.

And the oil rich Asian Arab countries spend $11.9 per capita which is equal to African poor countries whose per capita expenditure reached $9.4.

What do you expect to find? Love and flirtation to the terrorist state of israel. How are we to make peace with state that continuously violates international law and goes killing peace activists without being held accountable for any of its terrorizing attacks on unarmed civilians and unarmed activists... We tried peace for years.. it doesn't work with such a fanatic zionist sate.. its time to BOYCOTT israel!
Peace will only happen when israel dismantles its apartheid regime and given all citizen on the historical land of Palestine equal rights...

I have noticed that there are several sad commentaries regarding the dreadful relationship between Arab Nations and Israel.

Let us all hope that this can change and people can learn to live together.

There will be those that dismiss what I have written as foolish or impossible, but just imagine what life could be like.

Let us not wait for death to find heaven lets make this world heaven now.

The real inventions that will change the world will not come from a lab but from the heart. Make peace with Israel.

I am pleased to see this article and hope that it will spur people toward peace and education.

Just imagine if the Arab world and the Israelis got together the dynamics of the middle east would change.

Just think with the education base in Israel and the resources of the Arab world the engine for growth and development would be fantastic.

Let us hope for that future

The actual answer for Arabs disturbed by Israel's superiority is not dollars expended in research; it is deeper and simpler than any collection of statistics or achievements (or lack thereof). It is:

"Because you hate."

Arabs could create for themselves everything they fear and envy in Israel, including wealth and productivity,

if they but redirect the energies expended currently (not to mention the last 63 years, among some centuries) in speeches, schools, teachers, agencies, brotherhoods, etc. that teach, celebrate, and enact hate

into precepts, practices, and institutions that build tolerance, cooperation, and exchangeable products for human use and betterment.

Nice to see such an article appearing in Doha. Consider that Israel is the size of Wales with a population of about 7 million - 20% of whom are Arab Israelis with the same opportunities as all Israelis. What a pity that Arab/Muslim states are averse to peace with Israel. The world would be a much better place!

It's too bad that the only thing that the Arab countries are good at is teaching their populations, including their children, to hate. They are only hurting themselves following this path.

Peace and blessings to all the people of Qatar! These statistics demonstrate clearly the benefits not just of R&D spending but also on the education needed to make that spending as effective as possible. Why waste effort and lives trying to destroy Israel? Emulate it, gain inspiration and grasp for a better future for all in the Middle East.

israel "trumps" only if you let them, Qatar must start getting involved in USA, your full potential can only be realized abroad. You must seek people and try to influence them in their own countries as much as possible. A program for research and engineering would bring many smart people to your schools and. Always try to establish and prevail. This is the Glory of God who ordained it

Good article.
You did not mention that you probably wrote your article with software and hardware designed in Israel. That someone in your family might have had their life saved by something in the medical field that was designed or made in Israel like Teva drugs or Imageing made in Israel.
You might have ate fruit that was grown or genitically modified to grow better in Israel.
Is Israel really persecuting you? Or is it making parts of your life better?
